With an in-house chromium plant, the production capacity is increased considerably and hence, for the products Yucca, Universal, Janda and Toga, a significant reduction of the chromium plating costs are reached. Zehnder accordingly was able to reduce the gross prices by between 10% and 40%.
Chromium is not equal to chromium. The German market in particular is very demanding. Through a strong leadership and close cooperation with its existing suppliers, Zehnder was able to develop its chromium quality to the present-day premium level in the last few years. To further expand this quality, to optimize the delivery times, and to make the pricing policies more attractive, Zehnder has set up an in-house chromium plating plant.
In the expensive control and production flow processes, this matter in particular is the care and processing quality during the pre-treatment of the radiator as well as the care of the immersion baths. Thus, for example, at Zehnder, the immersion baths are not 'hired out' for exploitation reasons, as is the case with vendors, which results in a further optimization of the chromium quality. The pretreatment stands out by the extremely careful grinding and polishing of the surface of the radiators before the coating process. Thus, later, there are neither grinding marks nor the smallest grooves visible on the chromium surface.
Also, the electrodes have to be applied carefully, for which a lot of experience and know-how is required, since otherwise, the chromium coat becomes too thin or non-uniform. Without such competence in the chromium processing, yellowish, shiny spots are the most frequent blemishes in the looks of lower quality chromium radiators.
The highest attention is also required for the rinsing and drying, because precisely in these production stages, spots can easily arise on the chromium, which can be polished out again only with a great deal of tedious work. Owing to this special production process, all the Zehnder chromium products have brilliantly shiny surfaces, without bubbles, inclusions or cracks. The surfaces then do not lose their perfect gloss even after many years. Apart from this high durability, the smooth surface also has a quite practical advantage: it is easy to clean and thus has a decisive influence on a hygienic and healthy room air.
The high-quality chromium processing not only includes the surfaces themselves, but also the thermostats and all the threaded joints of the designer radiator are available chrome-plated.
