Birmingham's New Hospital
Birmingham New Hospital Joint Venture has chosen Zehnder as the preferred
supplier of radiant ceiling panels for one of the UK’s largest healthcare
project.
The international engineering, construction and services group, Balfour Beatty,
has been appointed preferred bidder for the £521 million Birmingham Acute and
Adult Psychiatric Hospitals project
The University Hospital Birmingham (UHB) NHS Trust project consists of a new
1,249-bedded acute in-patient facility, and a 137-bed specialist psychiatric
hospital and teaching facility including 3 new psychiatric units.
on the site of the old Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The 3 mental health units - Showell Green, South Locality and Specialty Services
Unit will be supplied with the zehnder FLATLINE radiant ceiling panels. Zehnder
were seleted as suppliers as they were able to offer the ideal solution to the
non-standard ceiling design, in addition to their ability to meet cost and
supply criteria.
When it opens in 2008, the University Hospital Birmingham is destined to be the
most up-to-date hospital facility in Europe, if not the world.
The panels are due to be on site by the end of March and will be installed over
a period of 3 months. The construction of the new psychiatric facility is due
for completion by 2008.
